Monroe Township Municipal Court

The Monroe Township Municipal Court is very busy, mostly due to the large amount of traffic tickets written by local police for infractions like speeding, reckless or careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, driving without insurance, etc. The court also has jurisdiction over disorderly persons offenses that occur in Monroe Township. A disorderly persons offense is the least severe criminal charge in New Jersey, such as underage drinking, possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct, among other offenses. DWI charges are also tried in this court. A conviction for any of these charges can be very detrimental. Consequences can include loss of license, fines, a criminal record, community service and possible jail-time.
